Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers below to some common questions about therapy and our services. If you don't find the answers that you are looking for here, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Therapy can benefit anyone who wants to improve their mental health, work through challenges, or develop better coping strategies. If you're experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or simply want personal growth, therapy can be helpful. We offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your needs and determine if our services are a good fit.
Your first session is typically an intake appointment where we'll discuss your concerns, goals, and background. We'll review confidentiality, answer any questions, and begin to develop a treatment plan together. This is also a time for you to get comfortable with your therapist and the therapeutic process.
Session frequency varies based on your individual needs and goals and may be limited by availability. Most clients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, though some may benefit from more or less frequent meetings. As progress is made, sessions may become less frequent. We'll work together to determine the best schedule for your needs.
Yes, we accept most major insurance plans. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify your mental health benefits, including copays, deductibles, and any pre-authorization requirements. Our office can also help verify your benefits and provide information about out-of-network options if needed.
Telehealth involves conducting therapy sessions via secure video conferencing from the comfort of your home. Research shows that telehealth can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many conditions. It offers greater flexibility and accessibility, especially for those with transportation challenges or busy schedules.
The length of therapy varies greatly depending on your goals, the complexity of issues, and your progress. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (8-12 sessions), while others engage in longer-term work. We'll regularly check in about your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
Yes, therapy sessions are confidential with very few exceptions. We're required by law to break confidentiality only if there's immediate danger to yourself or others, suspected child or elder abuse, or when ordered by a court. We'll discuss confidentiality limits in detail during your first session.
The therapeutic relationship is crucial to successful outcomes. If you don't feel comfortable or connected with your therapist, please discuss this openly. Sometimes concerns can be addressed and resolved. If not, we can help you find a better match within our practice or provide referrals to other qualified professionals.
Some may benefit from inviting their partner to join their individual therapy sessions occasionally, while others may find that their relationship struggles would be better addressed in couple therapy. We'll discuss what approach would be most beneficial for your specific needs and goals.
We accept insurance, cash, and credit cards. For clients without insurance coverage or those choosing to pay out-of-pocket, a sliding-scale fee may be negotiated based on financial need. Payment of all session fees is required at the time of service.
